Q. Is IVF harmful or painful?

Normally a single IVF Cycle takes Four to Six weeks. IVF Cycle includes the following Steps-

Q. Is there any difference between natural pregnancy and IVF Pregnancy baby?

There are no Differences in Natural pregnancy or IVF pregnancy babies. There are some chances of complications in IVF pregnancy as in normal pregnancy. Just one thing to Add as IVF pregnancy is precious pregnancy so we should give additional care to be taken for the expecting mother.

In the case of fresh cycles, there should be 2 months gap is required. If the Second cycle is only Frozen embryo transfer in that case 1-month gap is required.

Q. There is a common belief that Success in IVF is difficult on the first attempt. Is it true? What is the success rate for IVF?

The normal success rate per IVF cycle varies is between 35%-50% across the globe, which can be increased more using advanced technologies. So it is just a myth that success in the first cycle is difficult. Based on the average success rate it is said normally 80-85% of couples get success in 3 IVF cycles

Q. When should one opt for IVF?

IVF has originally developed for the condition of blocked or missing fallopian tubes. Currently, IVF is prescribed for the following medical conditions –   Tubal Factor, Male Factor, Endometriosis, Age-related problems, Anovulation, and unexplained infertility.

The IVF treatment can be carried out in the cases where the other basic fertility treatments have not yielded results, or if the chances of success are better than with any other treatment.

If there are no contraindications, IVF can be done at the request of the couple by keeping in mind that this is the right time for IVF.

Q. With Bulky Uterus, Can we have pregnancy?

Yes, you can become pregnant with a bulky uterus but, we need to find whether it is because of Adenomyosis or Fibroid uterus. Also, endometrial thickness needs to be up to the mark.

Q. What If my first IVF cycle fails? how many times should I undergo the IVF?

You can go through IVF as many times as you wish, but we advise up to five cycles at the most with a similar line of treatment.

Q. What is the effect of Stress on Fertility?

There is a link between mental stress and pregnancy. In most cases, happy couples do not take long to conceive. Stress can result in decreased intercourse frequency or hormonal disturbances, which could adversely affect fertility.

Q. When Should I Opt for the Donor Egg option?

If normal fertility treatments like IVF have proven to be unsuccessful, an egg donation programme may be advised. If you have been diagnosed with premature ovarian failure, a low ovarian reserve, or unfavourable genetic factors that could be passed on from generation, donor eggs are a viable option. You can carry and give birth to a child using donor eggs just as you would with your own.

If you haven’t become pregnant after a year of regular sexual intercourse without taking birth control measures, experts recommend getting an infertility examination. For couples above the age of 35, after 6 months of attempting and If you’re over 40, schedule an appointment with an infertility specialist for proper evaluation

Q. What is the difference between IVF & ICSI?

Both IVF and ICSI are forms of IVF treatment. There is the only difference in way of fertilization of egg and sperm in the embryology lab.

In IVF, the sperms are allowed to fertilize the egg in a small petri dish in a lab similar to natural pregnancy. IVF is used when all the parameters of sperm are normal and healthy.

In ICSI, the healthy sperm is injected into the egg with the help of a needle. ICSI is mainly used with Male Factor fertility when the sperms parameters like count, motility, or morphology are compromised.

Q. How many times one should try IVF?

There are no fixed criteria or numbers specified for IVF Cycles. Many factors are involved to plan the IVF Cycle and add on procedures like age of the female partner, Clinical profile of Couple, Egg reserve and Embryo Quality, Previous IVF Cycle results, Financial Conditions, etc. In most of the cases, 3-4 IVF attempts are suggested, depending upon all the above, given factor

Q. What is the difference between IVF and Test tube babies?

IVF and Test Tube Bay are the same. Test tube baby is the layman’s name for IVF i.e. In-vitro fertilization, It means Female egg and male sperm are fertilized outside the female body in the lab and transferred back into the uterus. Initially, the fertilization process was done in the test tubes, but nowadays the fertilization is done in the dishes called petri-dish specially designed for IVF.

Male Infertility Questions

Q. What is included in men’s basic testing?

A semen analysis is frequently used in basic male fertility testing (sperm count). This is evaluated to find the number of sperm, the shape of the sperm, and motility. Male reproductive hormone levels can be measured in blood testing for men. Too much or too little of these hormones can interfere with the development of sperm or the ability to have intercourse. An ultrasound examination of the scrotum may be performed in some cases to look for abnormalities with the testicles.

Female Infertility Questions

Q. Complete bed rest is required after embryo transfer and during pregnancy for IVF?

There is no such evidence available for complete bed rest; however, 2-3 days’ rest after the embryo transfer are advised after which they can carry their routine activity which doesn’t put stress. Once pregnancy is confirmed should follow the advice of an Obstetrician based on the progress of pregnancy

Q. Can I Do Exercise during the IVF Cycle?

Yes, but during IVF treatment, you should avoid high-impact exercises and instead opt for low-impact activities like walking, swimming, yoga, or cycling. You may exercise as usual at the start of the IVF cycle, but as egg retrieval approaches, we will suggest that you reduce your exercise for health and safety concerns.

Q. How Many Days do I have to admit to the hospital for IVF?

 IVF patients need not be admitted. During stimulation, they need to visit 3-4 times for scan and blood investigations. The patient must fast for 6 hours and come to the centre on the day of egg collection around 2 hours before the procedure, the procedure takes about half an hour. Patients can return home after the anesthetic effect has worn off, which is usually 2-3 hours. For the day when embryo transfer is planned, which takes around half an hour and patients are free to go home after one hour.

Q. What are the dietary precautions to be taken during IVF treatment?
  • Avoid fast and processed foods.
  • Eat more home-cooked meals
  • Use more vegetable oil for cooking
  • Include more vegetable proteins such as fresh beans and nuts
  • Avoid pasta, rice and sweets
  • Choose full-fat milk, yogurt over skimmed
  • Avoid red meat.
  • Increase intake of fruits and beans for iron
  • Avoid carbonated beverages and drink more water
